Vibrant With Life

Under grace, listening to a new master, we become a sanctuary vibrant with Life!

The sayings of our mouth and the meditation of our heart.

Ps 19:14 – Let the sayings of my mouth, And the meditation of my heart, Be for a pleasing thing before Thee, O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer! (YLT)

What do the sayings of your mouth and the meditation of your heart reveal about who you think you are? Are they in agreement with the sayings of the Lord God’s mouth and the meditation of his heart?

Do they show that you embrace, readily accept, and avail yourself of what God has done and is doing for you? Do they include a new song of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord God?

I am…

Read the words of Scripture slowly and reflectively. Let them settle deep in your soul and take root.

Ps 116:16-17 – O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son [daughter] of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds. I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord. (ESV)

Note the relationship and pattern that is described in this text.

O Lord,
I am your servant.
O Lord,
You have loosed my bonds.
O Lord,
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving.
O Lord,
I will call on the name of the Lord.
O Lord,
I am your servant.
You have loosed my bonds.
O Lord,
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving…

Who are you?

O Lord, I am… [How do you describe yourself? Try again, this time from the depths of your soul.]
O Lord, you have… [What has the Lord God done for you? Again, look from the depths of your soul.]
O Lord, I will… [How do your answers to the first two questions influence your response to the Lord God?]

There was a time in my life when I described myself as unlovable, even by God, and my life experience “proved” it. I was basing my judgments on external circumstances. I was trapped in hurt, anger, and fear so that the lens through which I saw myself, the world and God was terribly distorted. I had a hard time coming up with a list of things that the Lord God had done for me. My commitment (to myself rather than him) was to stay out of his way, hoping that if he didn’t notice me, he wouldn’t harm me further. The sayings of my mouth and the meditation of my heart had nothing in common with the sayings of the Lord God’s mouth or the meditation of his heart. I had no idea who I truly am.

God with us.

Matt 1:20-23 – …[Joseph] do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). (ESV)

Do not fear.
That which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
God with us.

You have found favor with God.

Luke 1:30-35, 37-38 – And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin [a man I do not know]?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy— the Son of God… For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. (ESV)

Do not be afraid.

How often does an unhealthy fear, based on lies and ignorance and misperceptions, separate us from Love, Grace, Fellowship?

2 Cor 13:14 – the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, [is] with you all! Amen. (YLT)

As you reflect on the conversation between the angel of God and Mary, consider the bigger picture of what God is doing, not only in and for Mary, but in and for you and in and for me and in and for everyone.

1 Peter 1:3 – Praised be God, Father of our Lord Yeshua [Jesus] the Messiah, who, in keeping with his great mercy, has caused us, through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah from the dead, to be born again to a living hope, (CJB)

How will this be?

You will conceive…and bear…
The Father of our Lord Jesus the Messiah has caused us to be born again

How will this be,
Since I am… [lacking knowledge and understanding and experience]

The Holy Spirit will come upon you…
For nothing will be impossible with God.

In keeping with his great mercy
Through the resurrection of Jesus the Messiah from the dead,
You, born again to a living hope.
For nothing will be impossible with God.

I am the servant of the Lord…
Let it be to me according to your word.

Oh, that we might all learn to always respond so vulnerably and trustingly as Mary, regardless of our not knowing!

I am the servant of the Lord…
Let it be to me according to your word
In keeping with your great mercy.

That he might enable us to be made God’s sons and daughters.

Gal 4:3-7 – So it is with us — when we were “children” we were slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe; but when the appointed time arrived, God sent forth his Son. He was born from a woman, born into a culture in which legalistic perversion of the Torah [Law] was the norm, so that he might redeem those in subjection to this legalism and thus enable us to be made God’s sons [and daughters]. Now because you are sons [and daughters], God has sent forth into our hearts the Spirit of his Son, the Spirit who cries out, “Abba!” (that is, “Dear Father!”). So through God you are no longer a slave but a son [a daughter], and if you are a son [a daughter] you are also an heir. (CJB)

Who are we? Children. Slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe. But!
That’s not all we are. That’s not who we truly are!

But when the appointed time arrived, God sent forth his Son to redeem us from perversion.
When the appointed time arrived, God sent forth his Son
God sent forth his Son to enable us
God sent forth his Son to enable us to be made God’s sons and daughters.

The Lord God says: You will conceive…and bear…
The Father of our Lord Jesus the Messiah has caused us to be born again

We ask: How will this be?
We explain: Since we are… [slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe.]

The Lord God reassures us: I have sent forth into your hearts the Spirit of my Son
For nothing will be impossible with God.

And how do we respond?

We can doubt and resist, grieve, or quench the Holy Spirit that God has sent forth into our hearts. Or we can respond like Mary.

I am the servant of the Lord…
Let it be to me according to your word,
In keeping with your great mercy,
Through the resurrection of Jesus the Messiah from the dead.

And Mary treasured up each word, each revelation, each experience in her heart (Luke 2:19, 51).

I am the servant of the Lord…
Let it be to me according to your word,
In keeping with your great mercy,
Through the resurrection of Jesus the Messiah from the dead.

Are these words continually on your lips? Are they the constant meditation of your heart?

Read the texts again. Chew upon the words. Turn them over and over in your mind. Ask the Lord God what he wants you to receive from them and how he wants you to respond to them.

What thoughts and questions and emotions arise?

Does a word satisfy? Encourage? Convict? Prod? Instruct? Empower? Give hope?

What does it mean to treasure up in our heart every word, every experience, every revelation of the Spirit of God’s Son that God sent forth into our hearts?

Lead me to the places where you live.

Ps 43:3-4 – Send out your light and your truth; let them be my guide; let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the places where you live. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and delight; I will praise you on the lyre, God, my God. (CJB)

Let your light and your truth lead me to the places where you live, my God, my joy, my delight, my Savior.

Do not fear…
Conceived within…
The Father of our Lord Jesus the Messiah has caused us to be born again
He will save his people from their sins.
God with us.
For nothing will be impossible with God.
Regenerate.
Cause to be spiritually reborn.
Completely reformed.
To form or bring into existence again, reestablish on a new basis.

God with us. Under grace, the freedom of God.

Rom 6:14 – For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. (ESV)

Rom 6:14 – Sin can’t tell you how to live. After all, you’re not living under that old tyranny any longer. You’re living in the freedom of God. (MSG)

God with us. Listening to a new master whose commands set us free.

Rom 6:15-18 – So, since we’re out from under the old tyranny, does that mean we can live any old way we want? Since we’re free in the freedom of God, can we do anything that comes to mind? Hardly. You know well enough from your own experience that there are some acts of so-called freedom that destroy freedom. Offer yourselves to sin, for instance, and it’s your last free act. But offer yourselves to the ways of God and the freedom never quits. All your lives you’ve let sin tell you what to do. But thank God you’ve started listening to a new master, one whose commands set you free to live openly in his freedom! (MSG)

God with us. A sanctuary vibrant with life.

1 Peter 2:4-5 – Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out; God set it in the place of honor. Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you’ll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to God. (MSG)

Welcome the living Stone, Jesus the Messiah.
Welcome the source of life.
In the place of honor.

Present yourself.
For the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life.
Serve.
Offering Christ-approved lives up to God.

Read the texts again, setting aside your own thoughts, perceptions, judgments, your own agenda, to allow response to the words of the Lord God to rise from your inner depths. What do you discover?

God with us. We respond.

“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

Ps 116:16-17 – O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son [daughter] of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds. I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord. (ESV)

O Lord, I am
I am your servant, your slave. I’ve started listening to you, my new master.
O Lord, you have
You have loosed my bonds to the elemental spirits of the world
O Lord, I will
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
O Lord, I will
I will call on the name of the Lord.

O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer!

Let the sayings of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be for a pleasing thing before you!

But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. (Job 32:8 ESV)

Become aware of your breath. The breath of the Almighty in you.

Breath by breath. Become conscious of the presence of the Almighty in you. Surrender to the influence of the breath of the Almighty.

Inhale.
Exhale.

You must rely on the breath of the Almighty, the Spirit of God who lives inside you, to make you understand Gods words, to discern the thoughts and intentions of your heart, to seek the interests of Jesus Christ and not your own.

With your inhalation draw the words of the Lord God deep within you.

With your exhalation empty yourself of all your own ideas, plans, thoughts, imaginations and words to make room for the words of God to take possession. Open yourself completely to what the Lord God wants to reveal to you about yourself and about him.

Inhale: (draw the words of the Lord God deep within you)

Do not fear…Conceived within…

Exhale. (empty yourself of self to allow the words of God to take possession)

He will save his people from their sins…God with us.

The Holy Spirit will…enable us to be made God’s sons and daughters.
This is who we are!

Be diligent in listening and watching and perceiving as the Spirit of God’s Son loosens the bonds of the elemental spirits of the universe to set you free, constructing a sanctuary vibrant with life where you offer Christ-approved life up to God.

Inhale.
Exhale.
Breathe the Lord God’s words all day every day.

2 Peter 3:18 – But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. (ESV)
