Meditative – Perfect Peace

The tongue and two courses of life and two ways of knowing. May the Lord God give us the tongue of those who are taught, discipled diligently and expertly so we will pursue what makes for peace, speaking words that sustain the weary.

Words – Thoughts – And Nurturing Our Souls

The sayings of my mouth
And the meditation of my heart
Are powerful
Leading either to separation or unity, to fear or to love, to lies or to truth, to darkness or to light, to death or to life.

When the sayings of our mouth and the meditation of our heart are grounded upon and flow from God’s living Word, they are infused with the healing and life-changing power of Love and Grace and Fellowship.

This meditation is about the path to life. Looking to the Lord God to give us the tongue of those who are taught. Being taught, discipled diligently and expertly is a key component in our journey in recovering spiritual truth, and rediscovering who we really are. It is taken from the Study Blog titled Perfect Peace if you’d like to check out the Scripture texts that it’s based on.

My prayer for you is that you will encounter the breath of the Almighty as you experience and contemplate this meditation and that your weary soul will be satisfied, and your languishing soul will be replenished.

But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. Job 32:8 (ESV)

Do you regularly focus on your soul’s condition and needs as you do your body’s condition and needs?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Lie outstretched.
Place yourself in a passive or horizontal posture (literally or figuratively).
Utterly prostrate.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

The tongue.
There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts
But the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Which tongue are you most familiar with?
What kind of words most often form on your own tongue?
No human being can tame the tongue.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Does your tongue control you?
Does your tongue wound, cut, burn and destroy you and others?
Or have you surrendered your tongue to the One who can tame it?

The tongue.
Desire.
Pause and consider what you desire.
Listen to the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart.
What do you discover about what you desire?

The tongue of the wise that brings healing said:
Of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat.
Eat.
And you shall surely die.

But the tongue of the one whose rash words are like sword thrusts contradicted and seduced:
Eat.
You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened
And you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

The tongue.
Two courses of life.
Two ways of knowing.

Have you learned to distinguish between the tongue of the wise that brings healing,
And the tongue of the one whose rash words are like sword thrusts?

Knowing God himself and experiencing what he desires for you,
Or having and experiencing only the knowledge of good and evil.

One course of life
Is driven by the tongue whose rash words are like sword thrusts
Having only the knowledge of good and evil.
Upon this course, the tongue, yours or others, is involved in creating desires within you.
The ways and means of satisfying these desires often disregard the best interests of yourself and others.
The mind,
Beguiled,
Seduced,
By a deceitful tongue, yours or others,
Becomes corrupted, shriveled, withered, spoiled, ruined
And deals faithlessly with the Lord God.
Betrayal.

The other course of life
Is driven by the tongue of the wise that brings healing.
I, the Lord God, desire steadfast love.
I, the Lord God, desire the knowledge of God.

The tongue.
Desire.
Pause and consider what you desire.
Is your desire in harmony with the desire of the Lord God?
Steadfast love?
The Knowledge of God?

The tongue.
Desire.
I, the Lord God, do not desire sacrifice. I do not desire the victim or the act of sacrifice.
I, the Lord God, desire steadfast love.
Do you know the difference between sacrifice and steadfast love?

The tongue.
Desire.
I, the Lord God, do not desire burnt offerings. I do not desire destruction of life, by fire or other means.
I, the Lord God, desire the knowledge of God; perceptive, mentally alert, sharp, quick, astute in mind and heart in knowing me.
Do you know the difference between offering sacrifice and perceiving mystery?

The tongue
Whose rash words are like sword thrusts.
Desire.
Take what I see. Take what I want. Take what I can grab hold of. Eat.

Or

The tongue
Of the wise that brings healing.
Desire.
Wait for the Lord God to reveal steadfast love and the knowledge of God.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Does your tongue control you?
Does the tongue of another whose rash words are like sword thrusts control you?
Does your tongue, or theirs, wound, cut, burn and destroy you and others?

Or

Have you surrendered your tongue and their tongue to the One who can tame tongues?

The tongue.
Two courses of life.
Two ways of knowing.

Have you learned to distinguish between the tongue of the wise that brings healing,
And the tongue of the one whose rash words are like sword thrusts?

Knowing God himself and experiencing what he desires for you,
Or having and experiencing only the knowledge of good and evil?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

The servant of the Lord said:
The Lord God
Has given me
The tongue of those who are taught
Taught
Instructed and discipled diligently, expertly, skillfully.
Taught
To goad, prod into action, urge
That I may know how to sustain with a word
One who is weary.

The Lord God
Morning by morning he awakens
He opens my eyes
To be bare
To be made naked
Uncovered.

The Lord God
He awakens my ear to hear
As those who are taught.
The Lord God
Has opened my ear
To listen
With attention
With obedience.
And I was not rebellious.
I can do nothing on my own.
As I hear
I judge
And my judgment is just
Because I seek not my own will.
I seek the will of him who sent me.
The words that I say to you
I do not speak on my own authority
But the Father
Who dwells in me,
Does his works.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

The tongue.
Two courses of life.
Two ways of knowing.
Rash words like sword thrusts.
Wise words that bring healing.
No human being can tame the tongue.

The tongue
Is a small member
Yet it boasts of great things.
The tongue
Is a fire
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire.

The tongue
Is a world
Of unrighteousness
Injustice
The quality and act of wrongfulness of character and life.

The tongue
Is set among our members
Staining, soiling, defecting, disgracing the whole body
Setting on fire the entire course of life.
Setting on fire
By means of hell.
Arrogance
Overbearing pride and self-importance
Boasting.
The course of life driven by duplicity.
The course of life based on knowing good and evil through a corrupted mind
Having wandered away and lost one’s inner self
Disconnected from the knowledge and desire of the Lord God
Not knowing steadfast love
Ignorant of the knowledge of God.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
God!
In your grace
Have mercy on us;
God!
In your great compassion
Blot out our crimes.
God!
Wash us completely from our guilt
And cleanse us from our sin.

God!
Have mercy on us
Ignorant and boastful all.

Restless
Intrinsically worthless
Small member of my body
I cannot tame it.
My tongue.
What can I do?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

Trust
Be confident
Sure
Secure
In the Lord God
The One who can tame tongues.

The Lord God will keep
The Lord God will guard, protect, maintain, preserve
In perfect peace
The Lord God will keep safe, well, happy, friendly, healthy, favored, at rest, whole
The one whose mind is stayed on the Lord.
The Lord will keep in perfect peace the one whose conviction, opinion, purpose, imagination, work
Is stayed
Is propped, is leaning upon, has taken hold of
The Lord God.

The Lord God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed upon him.

Your mind.
Upon who or what is your mind stayed; propped up, leaning upon, having taken hold of?

The tongue and two courses of life:

Either:
Cease to hear
Cease to hear instruction, my child
Cease to hear chastisement, reproof, warning, restraint, correction
And you will stray,
You will be misled, deceived, ravished
Through ignorance.
You will wander away from the words of knowledge
Unable to ascertain by seeing
Unable to perceive through instruction and punishment
Unable to know through acquaintance and friendship.

Or:
Incline your ear.
Bow down your ear.
Place yourself, your ear, your inner ear in a position to be able to hear.
Incline your ear and hear.
Hear intelligently, with attention, carefully, certainly, diligently,
To discern, perceive, understand, regard, witness, to be obedient.
Hear the words of the wise.
Hear the words of the intelligent, skillful, artful.
Hear the words of the One who made your ear to hear the words of the wise.

Apply your heart
Place your heart in order.
Bring it.
Place it in a passive, horizontal posture
Utterly prostrate
In the presence of your Helper.

In cooperation with
And in subjection to your Helper
Apply your heart, the very center of your being.

What is in your heart that needs to be…
Laid up, stored up or put away from you?
What is in your heart that needs to be…
Let alone?
What is in your heart that needs to be…
Set, to put in a particular place or position, course, direction, or disposition
Stayed, propped up, to lean upon or to take hold of the Lord God?

What is in your heart that needs to be…
Regarded, given attention, care, contemplation
Made, formed, converted, created
Marked, influenced?

Apply your heart
Apply your feelings, will, intellect, your center
Care for
Consent
Heed
Regard
With understanding
Willingly
To Wisdom that heals.

Apply your heart
To my knowledge.
Through my words
See me, the Lord God.
Discover and discern me and my ways.
Observe me and my ways.
Recognize me and my ways.
Acknowledge me and my ways.
Be acquainted with me and my ways.
Have respect for me and my ways.
Be sure of me and my ways.
For it will be pleasant if you keep my words within you,
If all of them are ready on your lips.

Then you will share the experience of the Lord’s servant.
Morning by morning he awakens
He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught
The Lord God has opened my ear
And I was not rebellious.
The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught
That I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary.
The tongue of the wise brings healing.

God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you put in your stomach
God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you do with your life
God’s kingdom is what God does with your life
As he sets it right
As he puts it together
As he completes it with joy.

Your task
Your task is to single-mindedly
Single-mindedly serve Christ.
Serve Christ
Single-mindedly, voluntarily subject yourself to Christ.
Then you will please God
And prove your worth to people around you.

Incline your ear
And hear the words of the wise
And apply your heart
To my knowledge.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

So then
Let us pursue
Let us follow after
Let us persecute whatever lies within that would hinder us
And let us press forward
Let us pursue what makes for peace
To join.
Prosperity.
One.
Quietness.
Rest.
Set at one again.
Let us pursue what makes for peace
Peace within
Peace with the Lord God
And peace for mutual upbuilding.

Relationship, intimate knowing, steadfast love, knowledge of God is what the Lord God is calling and inviting us to experience and participate in.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Spirit can be known only by spirit
God’s Spirit and your spirit
In open communion.

As you enter contemplation to nurture your soul and to be given the ears and the tongue of those who are taught, discipled diligently and expertly, allow yourself to be drawn deeper into the Presence of your constant companions, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of Holy Spirit.

Be silent with a sense of anticipation. It is here in this openness and focused attention and intention where the breath of the Almighty will make you understand that it isn’t a matter of what you do with your life, but what God is doing with your life, as he sets it right, as he puts it together, as he completes it with joy. Your task is to single-mindedly, voluntarily place yourself under the authority and control of Christ, acknowledging that he is worthy of your undivided, whole-hearted allegiance. Desire steadfast love. Desire the knowledge of God, for that is what he desires. Experience being set at one again with him.

Close your eyes. Stay in this position of quiet anticipation for as long as you can.

When ready
Open your eyes
Breathe in
Breathe out

Go, and live as you really are, as the breath of the Almighty in you nurtures and matures the simplicity and singleness of devotion to the Lord God that is in Christ Jesus. Live in wholehearted devotion to the Lord God, through the breath of the Almighty in you, today and every day. Awaken to life through God-centered consciousness, your eyes ever toward the Lord God, as he sets your life right, puts your life together, and completes your life with joy.

Philem 25 – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (ESV)

1 thought on “Meditative – Perfect Peace

  1. “Christ is always coming; God is always present. It’s we who aren’t! Jesus tells us to always be ready, to be awake, to be fully conscious and expectant. It’s the key to all spirituality because we usually aren’t.”

“I often say to myself, “Just this!” even amidst the things I don’t want, I don’t expect, and sometimes don’t like “in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning”.”
