Meditative – Our Helper, Our Companion

Our helper. Our companion. Human being or Lord God? Flesh or Spirit? Our companion. Our helper. The upholder of our life who guides us into all the truth.

Words – Thoughts – And Nurturing Our Souls

The sayings of my mouth
And the meditation of my heart
Are powerful
Leading either to separation or unity, to fear or to love, to lies or to truth, to darkness or to light, to death or to life.

When the sayings of our mouth and the meditation of our heart are grounded upon and flow from God’s living Word, they are infused with the healing and life-changing power of Love and Grace and Fellowship.

This meditation is about the path to life. Becoming aware of our helper, our companion, who guides us into all truth, influencing how we relate to ourselves, others and the Lord God. Learning to guard ourselves in our spirit is a key component in our journey in recovering spiritual truth, and rediscovering who we really are. It is taken from the Study Blog titled Our Helper, Our Companion if you’d like to check out the Scripture texts that it’s based on.

My prayer for you is that you will encounter the breath of the Almighty as you experience and contemplate this meditation and that your weary soul will be satisfied, and your languishing soul will be replenished.

But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. (Job 32:8)

Do you regularly focus on your soul’s condition and needs as you do your body’s condition and needs?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Take note of your body.
Your senses.
Your emotions.
Your intellect, logic, reasoning, thoughts
Your imagination, the power of forming mental images of what is not actually present.
Are you able to detach and set these things aside so you are free of them?
Free of self-pleasure.
Free of entanglement by passions.
Free even in the very depths of your soul from being dominated and controlled by your senses, emotions, thoughts, imagination.
So that you can experience the perfect peace of complete, healing, transforming silence.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Lie outstretched.
Place yourself in a passive or horizontal posture (literally or figuratively in your imagination).
Utterly prostrate.

Again, take note of your body.
Your senses.
Your emotions.
Your intellect, logic, reasoning, thoughts
Your imagination, the power of forming mental images of what is not actually present.
Does this position change anything in your body?
Are you free?
Or does this position make you aware of how much control your senses, emotions, thoughts and imagination have over you?
Are you stuck?
Entrenched?
Can’t escape them?
Unfamiliar with quiet and peace?
Can’t stand silence?
Have no idea what rest in the Lord is?
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Oppression.
Are you aware of oppression in your body; senses, emotions, intellect, imagination?
Voices and urges constantly battering you?
Nagging you?
Criticizing or condemning you?
Driving you?
Feeling weighed down?
Worried?
Physically or mentally distressed?
Held hostage by:
Negativity?
Fear?
Envy?
Anger?
Hurt?
Loneliness?
Desperate need for acceptance by other people?
Greed?
Addictions?
Aspirations and ambitions?
Self-righteousness?
Self-importance?
Aggression?
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Are you working hard to hold back, subdue, control senses, emotions, thoughts and imagination?
Are you unwilling to be vulnerable, honest, open about what you’re repressing and hiding?
Have you given away your power, expecting someone or something else to save you or give meaning to your life?
Do you work hard to prove yourself significant?
And yet consistently struggle with dissatisfaction
Longing for something better, something more?
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Open yourself to the Word of God
Open the depths of your interior to the breath of the Almighty
Invite her to take the cover off what you are consciously trying to cover and hide
Trust her to reveal what is hidden in your unconscious
That separates, wounds, harms
So that she can help you heal and rediscover who you really are
Precious treasure, perfect in your Maker and Helper.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

Acknowledge that you identify with Eve.
Her illusion and distraction.
When Eve saw
The fruit was a delight to the eyes
Was desired to make one wise
She took the fruit
She ate it
She gave it to Adam to eat
Their eyes were opened
And they knew
They knew they were naked.
They made themselves loincloths.
To cover.
To hide.
Note in your body, senses, emotions, intellect, imagination what Eve and you experience
Through seeing and taking and eating and knowing and covering and hiding.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Sin.
Missing the mark.
Not knowing Grace.
Falling.
Controlled and dominated through attachment to physical senses, emotions, rational intellect, and imagination.
Beguiled. Seduced wholly.
Mind corrupted from the simplicity that is in the Christ.
Mind corrupted from the singleness of devotion to the Lord God
Mind corrupted with conflicting self-interest, filthy, depressingly wretched, meanly selfish garments.
Deviating from the course marked out for you.
Out of step with Spirit.
Dust
Flesh
Self-will and self-pleasure in opposition to love and union in the Spirit.
Note in your body, senses, emotions, intellect, imagination what Eve and you experience.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

The one, Christ Jesus, is set.
To lie outstretched. Utterly prostrate.
Set for the falling and rising again of many
Set that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed
Words, thoughts, meditations, heart, mind, will, motives, emotions
Uncovered.
No more hiding.
Waiting to rise.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

I am weary with my crying out
My throat is parched
My eyes grow dim
With waiting for my God.

Inhale deeply. My soul thirsts.
Exhale deeply. For the living God.
Breathe in. When shall I come?
Breathe out. And appear before God?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
The Lord God said,
“It is not good that human beings should be alone”
“It is not good that [your name] should be alone”
“I will make a helper fit for [your name].”
A counterpart
A mate
To stand boldly out opposite
To make clear, to reveal
To announce
Always by word of mouth to one present
To one present
By word of mouth
To expose
Lay open
Make accessible to influence or action
Make known
Predict
Warn
Lead you to expect
To hold out for hope
Tell in advance what will happen
Explain
Make understandable
Praise
Commend the worth of
Express approval and admiration.
A helper fit for you.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
One.
With a portion of the Spirit in their union.
Guard yourselves in your spirit.
Do not be faithless.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

I, Lord God, desire steadfast love and not sacrifice
I, Lord God, desire the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings
But like Adam you transgressed the covenant
You dealt faithlessly with me.
You reject me
You reject me from ruling over you
For help
You look to human beings.
You do not look to me for help,
Faithless in guarding yourself in your spirit.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Sin.
You do not look to the Lord God for help.
Sin.
You are in the state of being dominated through attachment to the passions; senses, emotions, intellect, and imagination.
Sin entered the world through one man, Adam.
Death entered the world,
Through sin,
Through deviating from the course marked out, by wandering away from union in the Spirit.
Adam did not know the Lord God.
Adam did not know steadfast love.
Adam did not receive or return steadfast love.
Adam did not know the gracious gift of the Lord God.
He dealt faithlessly with the Lord God,
Faithless in guarding himself in his spirit.
Sleep
Deep sleep.
He did not know.
Did not
Know
“I want you free from anxiety.”

What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power
Has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction
Vessels that do not, cannot know
The gracious gift of the Lord God
In order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy
Which he has prepared beforehand for glory

Adam.
The first Adam.
A living being.
Of dust.
From the earth.

All human beings.
You and me.
Like Adam.
Bearing the image of the man of dust,
In a state of being that is dominated through attachment to the senses, emotions, intellect, and imagination.
Faithless in guarding ourselves in our spirit.
Sleep.
Deep sleep.
The natural body.
In Adam,
The first Adam
All die.
You die.
The vessel of wrath.
Faithless in guarding ourselves in our spirit.

Adam.
The last Adam.
Christ.
A life-giving spirit.
From heaven.
Spiritual.
In Adam,
The last Adam,
All shall be made alive.
You shall be made alive.
The vessel of mercy.
Faithful in guarding our spirit.

Just as
You have borne the image of the man of dust
Faithless in guarding yourself in your spirit.
You shall also
Bear the image of the man of heaven
Faithful in guarding yourself and all in your spirit.

Flesh and blood cannot
Inherit the kingdom of God.
Your natural, earthly life doesn’t in itself
Lead you by its very nature into the kingdom of God.
Its very nature is to die.
The vessel of wrath.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

The law
Came in to point out each and every error and flaw
Each wound inflicted,
The consequence of being dominated through attachment
To the senses, emotions, intellect, and imagination.
And then the pain compounded as consciously or unconsciously,
The wounds are covered, hidden, neglected, ignored, denied
Rather than courageously exposed, explored, and offered up for healing
To the One who is faithful and trustworthy and merciful and all-knowing
The One who is faithful in guarding himself and all in his spirit.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

The law
Came in to reveal all lapses and deviations
From the simplicity and singleness of devotion to the Lord God.
The law
Came in to persuade everyone bearing the image of the man of dust
Of their desperate need for a helper fit for them.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

But don’t look to law to heal you
Or set you free
Or lead you to wholeness.
Grace!
Look to grace.
Where separation and suffering and sin abounded
Grace super-abounded.
Grace
Covenant
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Grace
Covenant
A relationship
Of love and loyalty.
God’s grace always goes before
Grace always produces human beings’ response.
God’s purpose
That human beings be joined to him
In loving service
That human beings be joined to him
And know eternal fellowship, companionship, a mutual sharing
Through receiving freedom from the state of being attached and dominated by the passions
Through receiving the freedom that Jesus Christ purchased for us
With his body broken
And his blood shed.
“I want you free from anxiety.”
“I will make a helper fit for you.”
“To secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.”

Grace
Grace reigns,
Through righteousness.
But not through your own righteousness.

Righteousness,
The character and quality of being right, faithful, true, conforming to the revealed will of God.
Righteousness,
The gracious gift that brings you back into intimate relationship with the Lord God.
Righteousness,
That is unattainable by obedience to any law
Righteousness,
That is unattainable by any merit of your own.
Righteousness,
Gracious gift,
Accepting the Word of God
Righteousness,
Making the Word of God your own
Eating, drinking, digesting, absorbing, infusing, dispersing the Word of God.
Righteousness,
Submitting to the control of the Word of God, the Christ, the Messiah, the Living Word.
Righteousness,
Leading to life
Eternal life
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
The One who is faithful in guarding himself and all in his spirit.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

I will send
A helper fit for you.
The Helper.
When she comes
She will convict you.
She will convict you concerning sin, because you do not believe in me.
Your mind is corrupted, being dominated through attachment to the senses, emotions, intellect, and imagination.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

The Helper.
When she comes
She will convict you.
She will convict you concerning righteousness, faithfulness, truthfulness, conforming to the revealed will of God,
Because I [Jesus] go to the Father.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

The Helper.
When she comes
She will convict you.
She will convict you concerning judgment, decision, justice,
Because the ruler of this world is judged.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

The Helper,
The Spirit of truth
Will guide you into all the truth.
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Have you met the helper who is fit for you?
Have you received her?
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Who is your helper?
Human being?
God?
Flesh, being dominated through attachment to the senses, emotions, intellect, and imagination?
Spirit, the Word of God, the Helper fit for you?
“I want you free from anxiety.”

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master
As the eyes of a maidservant look to the hand of her mistress
So our eyes look
Our eyes look to the Lord our God
Till he has mercy upon us.

O God,
Have mercy on us!

O God,
Have mercy on me!
I want to be free from anxiety.

O God,
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things
And give me life in your ways.
I want to be free from anxiety.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Spirit can be known only by spirit
God’s Spirit and your spirit
In open communion.

As you enter contemplation to nurture your soul and meet the Helper fit for you who will guide you into all the truth, allow yourself to be drawn deeper into the Presence of your constant companions, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of Holy Spirit.

Be silent with a sense of anticipation. It is here in this openness and focused attention and intention where the breath of the Almighty will make you understand that you really are who he says you are in Christ. Righteous. Right. Faithful. True to the revealed will of God. Being knit together in love, in touch with everything there is to know of God, having a mind confident and at rest, focused on Christ, united with Christ, one Spirit. Receive the gracious gift of the Lord God.

Close your eyes. Stay in this position of quiet anticipation for as long as you can.

When ready
Open your eyes
Breathe in
Breathe out

Go, and live as you really are, as the breath of the Almighty in you nurtures and matures the simplicity and singleness of devotion to the Lord God that is in Christ Jesus. Live in wholehearted devotion to the Lord God, through the breath of the Almighty in you, today and every day. Awaken to life through God-centered consciousness, your eyes ever toward the Lord God.

Phil 4:23 – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (ESV)

  1. “Now if no one knows the things of God save the Spirit of God, it is impossible that a man should know the things of God. But mark how this too becomes possible: but we, he says, have received not the spirit of the world but the spirit which is from God, that we may know the things graciously given to us by God, and these also we speak not in words taught of human wisdom but in those taught of the Spirit.” From: On Prayer – Author Origen (written circa 200 AD)

    1. Yes, we have received the spirit which is from God! Are we aware? Or is there too much noise and busyness to distract us? Do we make time and effort to cultivate intimate friendship with the spirit which is from God?
