Meditative – Created for Good Works

Words – Thoughts – And Nurturing Our Souls

The sayings of my mouth

And the meditation of my heart

Are powerful

Leading either to lies or to truth, to darkness or to light, to death or to life.

When the sayings of our mouth and the meditation of our heart are grounded upon and flow from God’s living Word, they are infused with the healing and life-changing power of Love and Grace and Fellowship.

This meditation is about the path to rediscovering the state of simple and pure devotion to the Lord God. No longer living for ourselves. Controlled by his love. In relationship with him. We begin to mend. Recover. Rest. Return to our original state. This is our journey in recovering spiritual truth. It is taken from the Study Blog titled Created for Good Works if you’d like to check out the Scripture texts that it’s based on.

My prayer for you is that you will encounter the breath of the Almighty as you experience and contemplate this meditation and that your weary soul will be satisfied, and your languishing soul will be replenished.

But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. Job 32:8 (ESV)

Do you regularly focus on your soul’s condition and needs as you do your body’s condition and needs?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Seek your interior, quiet place
Where the Spirit of the Lord God dwells within you.
In solitude and stillness of body, mind, emotions
Seek the presence of your constant companions, Grace, Love, Fellowship.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Rest here
Wait here
Where your soul will be nourished.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Mist.
Visualize mist.
What do you see?
What do you smell?
What do you feel?
What do you hear?
What do you taste?
Notice your thoughts.
Identify yourself with mist.
What do you long for?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Listen.
The Lord God says:
You do not know.
What is your life?
Vanity
Idolatry
False
Uselessness
Deceptive
Destructive
Ruin
Mist.
Identify with mist.
What do you long for?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Mist.
You do not know.
What is your life?
You say:
“I will live”
“I will go”
“I will do.”

And the Lord God responds:
You boast!
In your arrogance you boast.
All such boasting is evil.
Vanity.
You do not know.
What is your life?
You are a mist
That appears and then vanishes

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Vanity.
Self-seeking.
Affected and produced by your state of mind
Resulting from your feelings and temperament.
Deceived.
You boast!
You do not know.
What is your life?
Mist.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

You ought to say:
If the Lord wills.
If the Lord establishes.
If the Lord affects the nature, kind, quality
Of my thoughts and desires,
If the Lord gives direction, shape or affect,
I will live, I will go, I will do.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
If the Lord wills.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Died.
One.
For all.
Therefore, all have died.
Interconnected.
Interdependent.
One.
For all.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

One died for all
That those who live
Might no longer live for themselves
But for him who for their sake died and was raised.
Controlled by the love of Christ
Living
No longer for yourself
Living
Controlled by the love of Christ.
From now on, therefore,
We regard no one according to the flesh.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

You do not know.
What is your life?
Mist.
Does your picture of mist and the way you identify with it change within the framework of knowing that mist is under the control of the love of Christ Jesus?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Open yourself to the Word of God.
Open the depths of your interior to the breath of the Almighty.
For it is the spirit in you,
The breath of the Almighty,
That makes you understand.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

By grace
By favorable regard
By divine favor
Spontaneous
Free and universal
Redemptive mercy
Pleasure and joy
By grace
You have been delivered and protected
Through the channel of faith
Reliance upon Christ.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Grace.
By grace you have been delivered and protected.
This is not your own doing!
It is the gift
It is the sacrifice of God.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
This is not your own doing!
It is not a result of your work, toil, effort, act.
You may not boast!

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Grace.
You are the Lord God’s workmanship
You are created in Christ Jesus
For good works
Which God prepared beforehand
That you may walk in them
That you may follow as a companion
That you may live as a person bound by promise
That you may live as a person devoted to the Lord God.
That you may live as one whom the love of Christ controls.
You are the Lord God’s workmanship
You are created in Christ Jesus.
You may not boast!

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

You do not know.
What is your life?
You are a mist
That appears and then vanishes.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Praised be God
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In keeping with his great mercy,
He has caused you
To be born again.
Born again to a living hope
Born again to an inheritance that cannot decay, spoil or fade.
He has caused you
To be born again
Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
To an inheritance kept safe for you in heaven
Grace.
This is not your own doing!
It is not a result of your work, toil, effort, act.
You may not boast!

Meanwhile…
Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Through trusting
Convinced by argument
Gaining regard, conciliation, good will
You are being protected by God’s power for a deliverance ready to be revealed at the Last Time.

Meanwhile…
Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Praised be God, Father of our Lord Jesus the Messiah
Who, in keeping with his great mercy,
Has caused you
Through the resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah, from the dead
He has caused you
To be born again
To a living hope
Rejoice in this!

Rejoice in this
Even though for a little while
You may have to experience grief in various trials.
The purpose of these trials
Is so that your trust’s genuineness
Will be judged worthy of praise, glory and honor at the revealing of Jesus the Messiah.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Your trust.
Is it mist?
Is it vanity?
Deception?
Uselessness?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Your trust.
Is it genuine?
Founded upon the great mercy of the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ?

Your trust.
Is it genuine?
Reliant upon the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead?

Your trust.
Is it genuine?
Confident that the Lord God has caused you to be born again
To a living hope
Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Your trust.
Is it genuine?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Though you live in the world
You do not walk according to the flesh
You are the Lord God’s workmanship
You are created in Christ Jesus
For good works
Which God prepared beforehand
That you may walk in them
Devoted to the Lord God
Controlled by the love of Christ.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Though you live in the world
You do not wage war in a worldly way.
Vanity
Subjective impulse
Idolatry
False
Uselessness
Deceptive
Destructive
Ruin

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Though you live in the world
You do not wage war in a worldly way.
Your weapons are not worldly.
Your weapons have God’s power
To demolish arguments and every arrogance that raises itself up
Against the knowledge of God.
You take every thought captive
Making it a prisoner of war
Unable to act independently
Obliged to listen and submit
And obey Christ Jesus
By becoming joined to him
United with him
Controlled by the love of Christ.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Christ Jesus invites you:
Take my yoke upon you
And learn from me
For I am gentle and lowly in heart
And you will find rest for your soul.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

The Lord God has caused you to be born again
To a living hope
To an inheritance that cannot decay, spoil or fade
An inheritance kept safe for you in heaven
A deliverance ready to be revealed at the Last Time.
Rejoice in this!

Rejoice in this
Even though for a little while
You may have to experience grief in various trials.

Suffering
Makes complete.

Suffering
Makes perfect.

Suffering
Reveals the genuine.

A state of simple and pure devotion to the Lord God
No longer living for yourself
But controlled by the love of Christ Jesus.
In relationship with him
Joined with him
United with him
We begin to mend
Recover
Rest
Return to the original
Made in the image and likeness of our Creator/Potter
Reflecting his character
Love.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

Rest.
Wait.
Be still.
Open wide the depths of your interior to the breath of the Almighty.
To nurture your soul as you wordlessly confide in him.
As he searches your heart
As the Spirit intercedes for you
According to the will of God
With groanings too deep for words.

As you enter contemplation shut the door to your room, your place of quiet, rest, and solitude. This is your soul’s time. Leave everything else outside, on the other side of the door.

Open yourself to the Presence of your companions. Sense your soul being drawn into the inner circle of friendship, to participate in intimate relationship with the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of Holy Spirit. Let them nurture your soul as they lead you into ever closer union with them.

Breathe in
Breathe out

Be silent with a sense of anticipation. It is here in this openness and focused attention where the breath of the Almighty will make you understand that you really are who he says you are in Christ, alive in the Spirit, controlled by the love of Christ Jesus.

Close your eyes. Stay in this position of quiet anticipation for as long as you can.

When ready
Open your eyes
Breathe in
Breathe out

Go, and live as you really are, as the breath of the Almighty in you nurtures and matures the simplicity and singleness of devotion to the Lord God that is in Christ Jesus. Live in wholehearted devotion to the Lord God, through the breath of the Almighty in you, controlled by the love of Christ, today and every day.

Philem 25 – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (ESV)
