Meditative – I’m Asking God for One Thing

Words – Thoughts – And Nurturing Our Souls

The sayings of my mouth
And the meditation of my heart
Are powerful
Leading either to lies or to truth, to darkness or to light, to death or to life.

It’s taken me a long time to understand and appreciate this.

When the sayings of our mouth and the meditation of our heart are grounded upon and flow from God’s living Word, they are infused with the healing and life-changing power of Love and Grace and Fellowship.

Meditation on God’s word automatically leads me into contemplation. Contemplation is simply nurturing my soul by giving it undivided attention by setting aside judgments, thoughts, and activity. Contemplation is being still. Silent. Waiting to receive Grace, Love, Fellowship. Many suggest a minimum of twenty minutes of silence, of concentrated focus on nurturing your soul in receiving the breath of the Almighty and releasing it back to him. Breathing in and out. In and out. In and out. Receiving and giving back. Breath. Life.

The psalmist David is aware that his soul thirsts, longs for something, and concludes that it is the living God that his soul thirsts for. So, he asks God for only one thing.

This meditation is taken from the Study Blog titled I’m Asking God for One Thing if you’d like to check out the Scripture texts that it’s based on.

My prayer for you is that you will encounter the breath of the Almighty as you experience and contemplate this meditation and that your weary soul will be satisfied, and your languishing soul will be replenished.

But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. (Job 32:8)

Do you regularly focus on your soul’s condition and needs as you do your body’s condition and needs?

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.

Inhale deeply.

Exhale deeply.

Become aware that your soul is dependent upon the steady flow of the breath of the Almighty just as your physical body is dependent upon breath to prosper and flourish. If you’ve not given much attention to your soul lately, you’ll discover that it is floundering.

Breathe in. My soul breathes

Breathe out. Rapidly and heavily.

Breathe in. My soul gasps

Breathe out. With need and longing.

Breathe in. My soul yearns

Breathe out. Eagerly.

Breathe in. My soul chokes

Breathe out. With strong desire.

Breathe in. My soul thirsts

Breathe out. For living God.

Breathe in. My soul pants:

Breathe out. “When?”

Breathe in. “When shall I come?”

Breathe out. “And appear before God?”

Inhale deeply. My soul thirsts.

Exhale deeply. For the living God.

It is the spirit in you

The breath of the Almighty

That makes you understand.

Breathe in. I’m asking

Breathe out. I’m asking God

Breathe in. For only one thing

Breathe out. To live with him

Breathe in. I’m asking God

Breathe out. To live with him

Breathe in. In his house

Breathe out. My whole life long

Breathe in. I’ll contemplate

Breathe out. God’s beauty

Breathe in. I’ll study

Breathe out. At God’s feet.

Breathe in. I am a temple

Breathe out. In whom God lives.

Breathe in. “Leave the corruption”

Breathe out. Leave the compromise,”

Breathe in. Breathes the Lord God.

Breathe out. “I want you

Breathe in. “All for myself.”

Breathe out. Pleads the Lord God.

Breathe in. “Don’t link up.”

Breathe out. “With those who will pollute you.”

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

It is the spirit in man

It is the breath of the Almighty

That makes him understand.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Only through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ are you able to discern and leave corruption.

Only through the fellowship of Holy Spirit are you able to discern and leave compromise.

Only through the love of God are you able to discern and break the links with those who pollute you.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

It is the spirit in man

It is the breath of the Almighty

That makes him understand.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Rest.

Wait.

Be still.

Be without movement.

Let thoughts and emotions come and go as they will.

Give focused attention only to your breath, the breath of the Almighty in you.

Be silent with a sense of anticipation.

It is here in this silence that the breath of the Almighty will make you understand.

IT         IS         GOD     who makes ALL things right.

The Lord Jesus Christ IS interceding and mediating and pleading for you to come to agreement with the Lord God.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Stay in this position of quiet anticipation for as long as you can.

Sense your soul being drawn into the inner circle of friendship, to participate in intimate relationship with the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of Holy Spirit.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Focus intently on your breath to the exclusion of all else.

Close your eyes. Rest. Wait. Breathe. Nurture your soul.

When ready, open your eyes.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Go, live with the Lord your God in his house the whole day long, aware of the breath of the Almighty in you!

The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you. (2 Tim 4:22 ESV)
